Croggiomics Databank
Croggiomics Databank is a conglomeration of genome related data of othoptera, especially crickets. Research of insects have been advanced based on Drosophila melanogaster, a fruit fly, and the accumulated knowledge has been applied for insects as a whole and even for human biology. D. melanogaster is a holometabola and has a distinctive form in larva, pupal and adult through metamorphosis. A group of holometabola insects should evolved late from a group of hemimetabola that has the similar form throughout its life cycle. Despite the importance of hemimetabola insects in evolution, the research of the insect groups is less advanced compared with holometabola insects. The genome sequence analysis of hemimetabola is far behind the one of holometabola. For this reason, we have started the genome sequencing and related omics study of hemimetabola focusing on crickets. This website is the outcome of our continuous effort for the elucidation of diversity and characteristics of crickets. This study also aims to develop cricket as new protein source for sustainable society in the future. The study is supported by Cabinet Office, Government of Japan, Cross-ministerial Moonshot Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Research and Development Program, “Technologies for Smart Bio-industry and Agriculture” JPJ009237 (funding agency: Bio-oriented Technology Research Advancement Institution)
This website contains several genome sequences determined by this research group and the sequences found in the public database. Omics data including transcriptome are also found. The genome sequences of different crickets are being compared and synteny analysis is being performed.
The name Croggiomics is a coinage from Korogi which means cricket in Japanese and omics and the figures on the top page and in the favicon were drawn by Dr. Kosuke Kataoka.
